Last night Orion brought the biggest smile ever to his mother's face when he slowly said "I love you, Mom". Wow, Aris was bowled over! She immediately called Matt to tell him. This accomplishment far surpassed anything the speech therapist could have forseen. Today, when the speech therapist was in, she told Orion that she was having to think quickly of words for him to practice saying because he was so ahead of anything she had planned for him. He went through the vowel sounds having the most trouble with eee. When going slowly and breathing deeply, he could pronounce most of his consonants without too much garbling, although he was having trouble with his w's and n's. I mentioned that he had an Uncle Wayne so they practiced saying Wayne for a while.
The lady told Orion that as his brain gets better, so will his speech and his motor skills. She explained to him that he will have to remember to close his mouth and swallow, then take a deep breath just before saying a word. She went on telling him that he will have to jog his brain's memory of how to speak and how to make his body move and that it will all come back sooner or later. By the looks of things, I believe it will be sooner than later! Thanks to everyone for their continued prayers!
I imagine that today Orion's Grampa Julio was probably beaming himself when he heard Orion's somewhat unclear but well intended "Happy Birthday, Grampa!"
